Christopher Gaffey graduates from Union College

Christopher Gaffey, of Simsbury, CT, graduated from Union College on Sunday, June 15.

Gaffey, a Psychology major, graduated magna cum laude with 500 students on the College's Hull Plaza as part of its 220th Commencement. Gaffey received a Bachelor of Science degree.

The featured speaker was Dr. Deborah L. Birx, a renowned international expert in the field of HIV/AIDS. Appointed earlier this year by President Barack Obama as an ambassador-at-large and U.S. Global AIDS coordinator, she shared with graduates the deadly impact of AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa and other parts of the developing world in the late 1990s.

Union College, founded in 1795 in Schenectady, N.Y. as the first college chartered by the New York State Board of Regents, offers programs in the liberal arts and engineering to 2,100 undergraduates of high academic promise and strong personal motivation.
